Welcome to Africa's largest utility and power gathering!

Saleem Mowzer, Chief Executive Officer, RED1, South Africa

Much has happened since our last gathering of 890 power, water and gas utility professionals at African Utility Week in the Mother City, Cape Town, in 2005. African Utility Week 2006 takes place in May, when Koeberg has to refuel its second generator, and the event could not have come at a more significant time.

Last year a number of pertinent issues were highlighted, and the importance of utilities providing service delivery to the people as well as being profitable business was stressed. There was plenty of discussion revolving around the new ideas and new technologies that would help achieve this goal.

African Utility Week will look at the progress made since last year on a number of projects, as well as how the utilities and the public can work together to save energy through DSM, energy efficiency and energy management processes and programmes.

The City of Cape Town is proud to host Africa’s premier convention and exhibition for the continent’s power, water and gas industries. We would like to encourage leaders of these sectors from utilities, government leaders, utility regulators, service providers, and representatives of civil society, commerce and industry, investors, power planners and the media to converge in our city to discuss the challenges, opportunities and future of the power industry in Africa.

We look forward to welcoming you to Cape Town in May.

Saleem Mowzer
Chief Executive Officer, RED1, South Africa
